Laurel Highlands Baseball Bounces Back With Big Win

A day after losing its first game of the season, the Laurel Highlands baseball team bounced back with a big 4-2 win against Gateway in Section 3-5A. The loss eliminated Gateway from contention to win the section title.

Senior Chad Petrush provided the offensive spark for the Mustangs, going 3-for-3 with a two-run home run.

That was plenty of support for sophomore Andino Vecchiolla, who pitched a complete-game. The win gave Laurel Highlands a season sweep of Gateway, outscoring them 10-4 in the two games.

The Mustangs improve to 12-1 overall and in the section. They have a chance to clinch the section outright on Friday with a win at Albert Gallatin. first pitch is at 4:15 p.m.

Gateway drops to 11-3 overall and 10-3 in the section. The loss snapped their four-game win streak. They will try to get back on track tonight when they host McKeesport at 7 p.m. in the section finale.
