Moon Baseball Hands West Allegheny First Loss

In its game on April 21, Moon didn’t score a run against West Allegheny in a 7-0 defeat. Fast-forwarding to Wednesday, it seems like the Tigers were saving all their runs for their Section Section 2-5A game at West Allegheny.

Moon scored double digits in defeating West Allegheny, 11-5, handing the Indians their first loss of the season.

The Tigers led the game off with a home run from junior Juston Jones. From their West Allegheny scored five unanswered runs to take a 5-1 lead. At that point, it seemed like it would be another win for the Indians, but the Tigers responded with the final 10 runs of the game.

Moon took the lead for good in the fifth inning, 6-5, and tacked on five more runs in the seventh inning.

Also hitting home runs in the game for the Tigers were seniors Anthony Fachet and Ryan Zimmerman.

The win pulls Moon to within a half-game of West Allegheny for the section lead with a 9-3 overall record and 9-1 mark in the section. West Allegheny drops to 10-1 overall and in the section.

Moon hosts Montour today at 4:15 p.m. for a chance to stay in the section race with a win. West Allegheny travels to Chartiers Valley on Friday for their section finale at 4:30 p.m.

Seamon Leads West Allegheny To Regular Season Sweep Of Moon

Senior Ashley Seamon belted a 3-run home run and picked up the win in the circle to lead West Allegheny softball to a 5-1 home win against Moon in Section 3-5A.

In two games against the Tigers this season, the Indians have outscored them 15-1, and now hold a 1 1/2 game lead in the section.

Senior Mackenzie Partyka also hit a home run for West Allegheny. Other offensive performers were senior Taylor Goldstrohm going 3-for-4 and sophomore Savannah Lewis going 2-for-2.

West Allegheny improves to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the section. The Indians will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Montour at 3:45 in a section game.

West Allegheny Baseball Wins Offensive Slugfest Against Montour

The West Allegheny baseball team erupted for 18 runs on Friday afternoon, and they needed every one of them to get past Montour. In a Section 2-5A showdown, the Indians outlasted the Spartans, 18-15.

Montour got out to a q uick start and looked like they were going to cruise to an easy victory with a 9-0 lead in the second inning. West Allegheny quickly jumped back into the game in the bottom of the second with six runs.

Once again, the Spartans seemed like they had control of the game with a five-spot in the top of the fifth inning to go up 15-8. The Indians would get the last laugh, scoring the last 10 runs of the game, including an eight spot in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Junior Shea Downing led West Allegheny with four RBIs in the game. Senior Brandon Cooper was on base via the walk four times for the Indians.

The win improves West Allegheny to 3-0 overall and in the section. The Indians have scored double digit runs in all three games and 18 runs in back-to-back games. Montour drops to 2-2 overall and in the section, even though they have scored in double digits in three out of the four game.
