#1 Seneca Valley 7, #5 Pine-Richland 2

Bella Gross had two RBIs and Kara Pasquale collected two hits as top-seeded South Fayette (17-1) got back to the WPIAL Championship Game with a 7-2 victory over 5th-seeded Pine-Richland (7-15). Lexie Hames got the win in the circle and had 10 strikeouts for Seneca Valley. Marissa DeLuca collected two hits including a home run for Pine-Richland.

Seneca Valley advances to the WPIAL Championship Game where they will face off against No. 2 Hempfield at Penn West University California either Wednesday or Thursday next week.

WPIAL 5A SEMIFINALS

#3 Trinity 5, #2 Shaler 4 – 9 innings

Hanna Suchoski hit two home runs and Addy Agnew hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to get 3rd-seeded Trinity (18-2) to the WPIAL Championship Game and ended Shaler’s (18-1) perfect season with a thrilling nine inning victory in the WPIAL Semifinals.

Amber Morgan had two hits and Taylor Dunn allowed two runs over nine innings. Bria Bosijevac collected two hits, including a home run. Ella Nash had two hits and drove in two runs.

Trinity advances to the WPIAL Championship Game where they will meet up with top-seeded and defending champion Armstrong next Wednesday or Thursday at Penn West University California. 

Shaler drops to the WPIAL Third-Place Consolation Game where they will face off with South Fayette with the winner going to the state playoffs.

#1 Armstrong 12, #12 South Fayette 2

Jenna Clontz was 4-for-4 with a home run and drove in four runs as top-seeded Armstrong (19-1) ended 12th-seeded South Fayette’s (12-10) Cinderella story with a 12-2 win in the WPIAL Semifinals at Gateway High School. Emma Paul homered for Armstrong and Isabella Atherton and Shelby Cloak each had two RBIs. Cameryn Sprankle got the win in the circle and was 2-for-2 in the box.

Rylee Rohbeck hit a home run and Cam Valentino had two hits for South Fayette.

Armstrong advances to the WPIAL Championship Game where they will take on No. 3 Trinity on either Wednesday or Thursday next week at PennWest University California.

South Fayette drops to the WPIAL Third-Place Consolation Game where they will meet up with Shaler with the winner going to the state playoffs.

BASEBALL

6A SECTION 1

Pine-Richland 10, Allderdice 0

Jacob McGuire threw a one-hit shutout on the mound and had two hits and drove in two runs at the plate, as Pine-Richland (9-3, 4-2) completed the sweep of Allderdice (1-6, 0-6) on Thursday afternoon. Joey Perry and Max Scuillo each had two RBIs for Pine-Richland.

6A SECTION 2

Hempfield 10, Baldwin 0

Hempfield (7-3, 5-1) used a big fourth inning to put away Baldwin (3-8, 1-5) and complete the series sweep with a 10-0 victory. The win was Hempfield head coach Tim Buzzard’s 200th of his career. Gage Wheaton had two hits and drove in two runs for Hempfield while Carson Shuglie homered. Conner Burkey and Dylan Firmstone combined for the shutout on the mound.

Mt. Lebanon 3, Central Catholic 2

David Shields struck out 10 in six innings of work as Mt. Lebanon (2-8, 2-4) bounced back after losing the series opener to take two out of three from Central Catholic (3-5, 2-4). Gavin Kelly was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Central Catholic.

NON-SECTION

Armstrong 10, Leechburg 0

Carson DeLano got the win on the mound and Logan Badac had three RBIs as Armstrong (7-2) dominated Leechburg (5-4) in non-section play on Thursday. Logan Gawlinski also drove in three runs for Armstrong.

Peters Township 8, Mohawk 7

Will Somers hit a walk-off single to give Peters Township (5-4) an 8-7 non-section win over Mohawk (6-2). Jack Lutte was 3-for-4 with a homer for Peters Township while Carter Shanafelt collected two hits. Jay Wrona homered and had two RBIs while Jacob Werner had two hits and drove in two runs for Mohawk.

Upper St. Clair 4, Seton LaSalle 3

Upper St. Clair (7-4) did just enough to edge Seton LaSalle (6-2-1) 4-3 in non-section play on Thursday afternoon. Cole Starrett had two hits for Seton LaSalle

SOFTBALL

5A SECTION 3

West Allegheny 16, Western Beaver 6

Ava Benish and Savanna Benish both homered and West Allegheny (10-1, 3-0) scored nine runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Western Beaver (5-3, 2-1) and win the game 16-6 in a battle of unbeaten section opponents. Benish had four RBIs for West Allegheny. Maddie Syka and Izzie Lefebvre each had a home run for Western Beaver.
