Canon-McMIllan Boys In Driver’s Seat After Win Against Mt. Lebanon
It has been nearly a half a century ago since the last time the Canon-McMillan boys’ basketball team won a section title.
After their 69-64 win at home against Mt. Lebanon on Tuesday night, the Big Macs are inching closer to another one.
The two teams have now split the season series, each giving the other their only section loss to this point.
The big difference in the game was from beyond the arc. Canon-McMillan made 11 of 23 (48 percent), including 8 of 12 in the first quarter and a half, while Mt. Lebanon was 16 of 42 (38 percent).
The Big Macs raced out to a 38-23 halftime lead, and were able to hang onto the sizable lead despite the Blue Devils’ valiant comeback effort.
Leading the way for Canon-McMillan was senior Jason Fowlkes with 24 points. Junior Ethan Beachy added 16 points. For Mt. Lebanon, juniors Hayden Mitchell and Sean Loughran each finished with 18 points.
With the win, Canon-McMillan improves to 13-1 overall and 7-1 in Section 2-6A. They currently own a half-game lead over Mt. Lebanon. They will go for its tenth straight win on Friday when they host Ringgold in a non-section game at 7:30 p.m.
The Blue Devils slip to 14-3 and 6-1. They will host Bethel Park on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
