Northeastern 4, Wesleyville 2

The Northeastern Bobcats advanced to the championship round of the PA American Legion State Baseball Championship Tuesday afternoon from Plum High School with a 4-2 win over Wesleyville. The game had to be moved to the all-turf facility at Plum due to inclement weather in the area. Northeastern jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ryan Wilson and Conner Rippo reached base before Brinden Floyd hit a two-RBI double off of Wesleyville’s Reilly Brown. Floyd and Quinn Shindler would also score in the inning courtesy of a triple from Brandt Johnson. Noah Trojanowski came in for Brown after the four runs crossed the plate, and he held Northeastern to just two hits the rest of the game. Wesleyville added late runs in the fifth and sixth inning respectively. David Gibson reached base on a throwing error, and later would score on a throwing error in the fifth. The next inning, Noah Reigel reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on an RBI double from Gibson. Northeastern’s Drew Barshinger gave up just two hits in the complete game effort, striking out five in the process. The Bobcats face the Quakertown Blue Jays Wednesday afternoon for the championship. Northeastern would have to win two games to be crowed state champs, as Quakertown has not lost yet in the tournament.

Quakertown 2, Bristol 0

In the battle of the Blue Jays, Quakertown came out on top, beating Bristol 2-0 in Game 13 of the PA American Legion State Baseball Tournament from Plum High School. The game had to be moved to the all-turf facility at Plum on Tuesday afternoon due to inclement weather in the area. The game was a pitchers duel in the early innings as Bristol’s Dom Capriotti and Quakertown’s Zach Oechsle each were doing their part to keep their team in contention. Quakertown broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning. Carver Perrone walked to start the frame and was later batted in courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Cole Reich. In the fourth inning, Caleb Everitt reached on a walk and later scored during a fielder’s choice hit by Peyton Myers. Quakertown’s Oechsle went the distance, giving up just three hits with eight strikeouts. Bristol’s Capriotti also pitched a complete game, letting up two hits with four strikeouts. Quakertown advances to the state championship game once again, and can clinch back-to-back titles in the matchup with Northeastern on Wednesday afternoon from North Allegheny High School. Northeastern can force an “if necessary” Game 15 if the Bobcats are able to beat the Blue Jays in Game 14, as Quakertown is undefeated so far in the tournament.
