BASEBALL

WPIAL 5A BASEBALL FIRST ROUND

#8 Fox Chapel 6, #9 Mars 4

#4 Plum 6, #13 Trinity 3

Brady Dojonovic struck out 11 over six innings of work and picked up the win as 4th-seeded Plum (13-7) defeated 13th-seeded Trinity (6-10) in WPIAL First Round action. Erik Streussnig and Logan Kemmerer each had two hits for Plum. Colin Watson earned the save.

Matthew Robaugh hit two home runs and had all three RBIs for Trinity. Plum advances to the WPIAL Quarterfinals where they will meet up with No. 5 South Fayette.

#5 South Fayette 7, #12 Armstrong 0

Tyler Pitzer allowed three hits over 6 ⅓ innings and hit a home run as 5th-seeded South Fayette (16-4) rolled to a 7-0 win over 12th-seeded Armstrong (14-7). Bo Stover had two RBIs for South Fayette.

South Fayette advances to the WPIAL Quarterfinals where they will take on No. 4 Plum.

#10 Upper St. Clair 9, #7 North Hills 7

Eli Mander collected two hits and drove in two runs and Owen Mandler and Michael Albert each had two RBIs as 10th-seeded Upper St. Clair (10-11) pulled off an upset for the second straight season defeating 7th-seeded North Hills (13-7) in the WPIAL First Round. Upper St. Clair scored seven runs in the sixth inning.

Dylan Barnes homered for North Hills while Tristan Weimann had three RBIs. Upper St. Clair advances to the WPIAL Quarterfinals where they will matchup with No. 2 Bethel Park.

#6 Peters Township 5, #11 West Allegheny 4

Vinny Sarcone hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to catapult 6th-seeded Peters Township (14-6) into the quarterfinals defeating 11th-seeded West Allegheny (14-7) at Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday. Peters Township trailed 4-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before rattling off four runs.

Brady Miller homered for West Allegheny and Will Gubba drove in two runs. Peters Township advances to the WPIAL Quarterfinals where they will take on No. 3 Penn-Trafford.

SOFTBALL

WPIAL 6A SOFTBALL QUARTERFINALS

#5 Pine-Richland 5, #4 North Allegheny 1

Mackenzie Gillis and Illiana Aggelou each had two RBIs as 5th-seeded Pine-Richland (7-14) took down 4th-seeded North Allegheny (14-7), 5-1 at Seneca Valley High School in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. 

Pine-Richland advances to the WPIAL Semifinals where they will take on top-seeded Seneca Valley.

WPIAL 5A SOFTBALL QUARTERFINALS

#1 Armstrong 5, #8 Thomas Jefferson 3

Jenna Clontz homered and drove in five runs as top-seeded Armstrong (18-1) picked up a quarterfinal win over 8th-seeded Thomas Jefferson (14-6) at North Allegheny High School. Cassidy Adams was 3-for-3 for Armstrong.

Liv Stock, Zoe Kristan and Morgan Alisesky all had two hits for Thomas Jefferson. Armstrong advances to WPIAL Semifinals where they will face off with No. 12 South Fayette.

#12 South Fayette 4, #4 West Allegheny 3

12th-seeded South Fayette (12-9) kept the Cinderella run alive as they pulled off another upset, this time against 4th-seeded West Allegheny (19-2). Stephanie Rohbeck was 3-for-4 for South Fayette and Emma Earley struck out 13 in the circle.

Adriana Vicari-Baker hit a home run and Aubrey Police and Makynlee Martin each had two hits for West Allegheny.

South Fayette advances to the WPIAL Semifinals where they will take on top-seeded Armstrong.

#3 Trinity 13, #6 Latrobe 3 – 6 innings

Amber Morgan and Madison Argo each homered for 3rd-seeded Trinity (17-2) as they rolled to a quarterfinal win over 6th-seeded Latrobe (15-4). Hayden Kraynick and Josie Straigis each hit home runs for Latrobe.

Trinity advances to the WPIAL Semifinals against No. 2 Shaler.
