Woodland Hills holds off Moon, Advances to Class 5A Semifinals
Moon made a late push, but wasn’t able to finish the comeback falling to second-seeded Woodland Hills, 52-49, on Saturday afternoon at Mt. Lebanon High School.
Points were at a premium in the first quarter as No. 7 Moon had a 9-7 lead after a quarter of play. Things picked up in the second quarter, but neither team could separate themselves and went into the half tied 22-22. Big third quarter for Woodland Hills where they outscored Moon 18-9 and had a 40-31 lead heading into the fourth.
In the final stanza, Moon made a furious comeback cutting the lead all the way down to one point with 2:17 to go in the game. The Tigers could never tie the game or get the lead and Woodland Hills staved off the upset bid, winning 52-49 and advancing to the WPIAL Semifinals.
Joi Burleigh and Tatiana Vazquez each scored 10 points apiece for Woodland Hills.
Emma Theodorrson led all scorers with 21 points while Reilly Sunday added 15 points.
Woodland Hills improves to 19-4 overall and will take on third-seeded Trinity in the WPIAL Semifinals on Wednesday right back at Mt. Lebanon at 6 p.m.
Moon falls to 17-7 overall. Hope still alive for the Tigers as they will advance to the state playoffs if Woodland Hills is able to win the WPIAL Championship
