West Allegheny overcomes slow start in win against Chartiers Valley
West Allegheny’s 52-48 win against Chartiers Valley on Thursday night served as a statement win for more than one reason.
The Indians overcame a slow start, falling behind 14-6 in the first quarter, but were able to storm back, outscoring the Colts 36-24.
The win was also impressive in marking themselves as a serious contender in Class 5A. The Colts are the defending Class 5A WPIAL champions and one of the preseason favorites to get back to the championship game.
Junior Hannah Lindemuth paced the Indians with 18 points. Sophomore Megan McConnell led the Colts with 14 points.
With the win, West Allegheny improves to 8-3 and 2-0 in Section 1-5A and will back on Monday at Moon at 7:30 p.m. The Colts drop to 6-4 and 1-1 and will look to rebound on Monday when they host Montour at 7:30 p.m.
