West Allegheny Boys Continue to turn it around
The West Allegheny boys’ basketball team continues to prove what a difference a year makes. Last season, the Indians won one game the entire season. Now they are in the thick of the section title race after defeating Chartiers Valley, a Class 5A WPIAL semifinalist last year, 63-53.
It was an up-and-down game for both teams as the Indians jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter. The Colts bounced back with a 19-10 second quarter to take a 26-25 halftime lead. West Allegheny got the final punch in the third quarter, outscoring Chartiers Valley 19-9 to take a 44-35 lead. Both teams were even in the final quarter to allow the Indians to hold on to the win at home.
Senior Isaiah Crowe led three players in double figures for the Indians with 19 points. Senior Jared Konop and junior Drevon Baldwin finished with 15 points apiece.
Joe Pipilo had a game-high 23 points for the Colts.
The win improves West Allegheny’s record to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in Section 2-5A. They are tied with Moon for second place in the section. They will look to keep pace on Friday when they host Hampton at 7:30 p.m.
The loss drops Chartiers Valley to fourth place in the section with a 6-5 overall record and 3-2 mark in the section. They will play their third straight road section game on Friday when they travel to Montour at 7:30 p.m.
