West Allegheny Baseball Wins Offensive Slugfest Against Montour

The West Allegheny baseball team erupted for 18 runs on Friday afternoon, and they needed every one of them to get past Montour. In a Section 2-5A showdown, the Indians outlasted the Spartans, 18-15.

Montour got out to a q uick start and looked like they were going to cruise to an easy victory with a 9-0 lead in the second inning. West Allegheny quickly jumped back into the game in the bottom of the second with six runs.

Once again, the Spartans seemed like they had control of the game with a five-spot in the top of the fifth inning to go up 15-8. The Indians would get the last laugh, scoring the last 10 runs of the game, including an eight spot in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.

JuniorĀ Shea Downing led West Allegheny with four RBIs in the game. SeniorĀ Brandon Cooper was on base via the walk four times for the Indians.

The win improves West Allegheny to 3-0 overall and in the section. The Indians have scored double digit runs in all three games and 18 runs in back-to-back games. Montour drops to 2-2 overall and in the section, even though they have scored in double digits in three out of the four game.

West Allegheny will host Ellwood City in a non-section game today at noon. Montour will host Moon next on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a section game.
