Walk-Off Single Sends Canon-McMillan Into PIAA Quarterfinals

For the second time in as many games, the Canon-McMillan baseball team picked up a 2-1 win at Wild Things Park. Six days after winning the Class 6A Championship Game there, the Big Macs returned to their home away from home to accomplish the same feat in the PIAA first round against District 3 third-place team, Dallastown.

With the game tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, senior Connor Flaherty delivered the game-winning single, scoring senior pinch runner Greg Siller from second base.

Canon-Mac struck first in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by senior Nick Serafino. The lead held until the top of the sixth on a game-tying double by Dallastown.

The run was the lone blemish on the day for Big Mac senior ace, Zach Rohaley. Rohaley pitched all seven innings and struck out 10 batters.

The win was the first one in the state tournament for Canon-McMillan since 2008.

The Big Macs improve to 18-5 and have set up a rematch of the WPIAL Championship Game against North Allegheny in the PIAA quarterfinals.
