Vikings Dominate Lower Dauphin For Trip to Hershey
In a record breaking performance, the Central Catholic Vikings trounced Lower Dauphin on Saturday afternoon at Mansion Park in Altoona for a 45-0 victory and a trip to the PIAA Championship Game. The win was the biggest blowout in the 26-year history of the PIAA semifinals. The Vikings defense held Lower Dauphin to a scant 21 yards of total offense and one first down.
On the other side of the football, the Central Catholic offense had little trouble moving the football and built a 31-0 lead by halftime. Riley Redman’s 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave the Vikings a 7-0 lead before Central Catholic blew open the game with a 24-point second quarter. Luigi Lista-Brinza scored on touchdown runs of 3 and 19 yards and Shafer Swann caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Florida State-recruit J.J. Cosentino. Mitch MacZura added a 29-yard field goal as part of the second quarter outburst.
In the third quarter, the Vikings put the game on ice with a 19-yard touchdown scamper by Lista-Brinza and a 69-yard punt return for a score by John Petrishen to bring the score to its eventual final, 45-0. Central Catholic remains undefeated at 15-0 and will face St. Joseph’s Prep on Saturday, December 14 at Hershey Park Stadium in Hershey, PA. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
