USC shuts out NA in WPIAL Class 4A Playoffs

For the second time in a week, the Upper St Clair boys soccer team hosted North Allegheny, this time in the first round of the WPIAL 4A playoffs on Saturday.

After falling to NA in the regular season finale, the No. 8 Panthers (12-3-2) shut out the No. 9 Tigers (11-7-1), 2-0. USC will be appearing in its fourth straight WPIAL quarterfinals.

The first half was filled with back-and-forth action with both teams playing getting solid scoring opportunities but neither team able to find the back of the net.

The Panthers opened up the scoring within the first five minutes of the second half. USC were rewarded a corner kick and capitalized with a Cyrus Khani goal.

North Allegheny continued to pepper USC goalkeeper Josh Ioli with scoring chances but he remained up to the task.

With five minutes left in the game, Upper St Clair put the game out of reach with a Jack Myers goal.  The Panthers defense anchored by RJ White, JJ Cuddy and Ioli would preserve the shut out to advance.

The Panthers will play No. 1 Plum (15-0-2) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at a time and location yet to be determined.
