Upper St. Clair Holds Off Norwin To Advance to WPIAL Championship
In a low scoring affair, No. 2 Upper St. Clair (15-2) defeated No. 3 Norwin (13-5) in the Class 6A girls basketball WPIAL semifinals on Wednesday.
The Panthers scored 12 points in the second quarter, the only quarter that featured either team reaching double figures. That gave USC a 20-15 lead at halftime.
Both teams traded baskets in the second half with Norwin cutting the lead to one with four minutes left.
Sophomore Sam Prunzik extended the Panthers lead to three with less than 30 seconds left. With just .3 seconds left in the game, up by three, the Panthers would send Norwin to the line to shoot two. Norwin would make the front end and miss the second but time rain out.
The Panthers will face top-seeded North Allegheny on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Peters Township’s AHN Arena in the Championship Game
