Top-ranked Mars Knocks Off No. 2 Moon

Tuesday night pitted the top two teams in Class 5A, as well as the top two teams in Section 2 when Moon traveled to Mars.

Mars remained the No. 1 team and undefeated within the WPIAL with a 72-64 win. Notre Dame commit Robby Carmody stole the show, finishing with a game-high 27 points. Carmody got the Planets the early lead with scoring the team’s first nine points. He was also able to seal the victory with the final six points for Mars.

Junior Andrew Recchia finished with 20 points, including breaking a 61-61 tie. Sophomore Michael Carmody added 10 points.

Connor Ryan led the Tigers with 26 points. It was the first loss of the season for Moon, who now sit at 9-1 and 2-1. Mars improves to 8-2 and 2-0. The Planets will travel to Chartiers Valley on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Moon will look to rebound from its lone loss when they host West Allegheny at 7:30 p.m.
