TIGERS CLIP CUMBERLAND VALLEY IN PIAA FIRST ROUND, 3-0
After winning the WPIAL Class 4A championship on Saturday, the North Allegheny Lady Tigers set their sights on a state title on Tuesday night and defeated the Cumberland Valley Eagles in the first round of the PIAA playoffs, 3-0. The Tigers maintained their recent postseason trend of earning a hard-fought win in set one and then cruising in the final two sets. NA won by set scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-14.
The North Allegheny offense was led by senior Kayla Dinkins who crushed Cumberland Valley with 15 kills. Paige Miller, Mika Logan and Avery Tuman all chipped in with six kills apiece. Abby Miller and Anna Sprys added five kills each.
On defense, senior libero Erin Carmody had a spectacular night with 28 digs. Junior Alena Carmody tallied 17 digs. Grace Flanders notched two aces, while Josie Wadlow and Julia Patzak came through with an ace each. It was a good overall passing night and performance for the Tigers .
North Allegheny remains undefeated on the season with a 21-0 overall record. The Lady Tigers advance to the PIAA quarterfinals on Saturday where they’ll face a familiar foe, the Seneca Valley Raiders.
