THREE-PEAT COMPLETE; TIGERS ARE PIAA CHAMPIONS ONCE AGAIN
By Jonathan Spina
For the third straight year, it came down to North Allegheny and Bishop Shanahan. After defeating Bishop Shanahan 3-0 in 2017 and 2018, things were a little closer in 2019 but the Tigers came out on top, 3-2, by set scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 12-25 and 16-14. It was North Allegheny’s sixth state championship in girls volleyball and the third in a row. Coach Heidi Miller became the second coach in North Allegheny volleyball history to win three straight state championships. The first, her father-in-law Bob Miller from 1992-1994. This is only the sixth time in PIAA girls volleyball history that a school has won three or more state championships in a row.
