Thomas Jefferson Holds Off Trinity’s Furious Rally
The Trinity girls basketball team ran out of time in the fourth quarter as host Thomas Jefferson was able to hold onto a 65-57 Section 1-5A win on Monday night.
The win gave the Jaguars sole possession of second place in the standings over Trinity.
TJ jumped out to a 23-12 lead after the first quarter and held a 42-25 advantage heading into the break.
Trinity got rolling in the fourth quarter, outscoring Thomas Jefferson 21-11 in the stanza, but the deficit was too steep to overcome.
Thomas Jefferson was led by senior Jenna Clark with 20 points. Juniors Alyssa DeAngelo and Dalaney Ranallo finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
For Trinity, sophomore Ashley Durig led the way with 19 points. Sophomores Courtney Dahlquist and Kaylen Venick finished with 17 and 10 points, respectively.
With the win, Thomas Jefferson improves to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the section. The Jaguars will travel to Chartiers Valley for a battle for first place on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Trinity drops to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the section. The Hillers had their 3-game win streak snapped and look to start a new one on Thursday at West Allegheny at 7:30 p.m.
