Heading into the season, Oakland Catholic was a favorite to win its section. The Thomas Jefferson girls basketball team made sure everyone will remember its name with a 58-45 win over the Eagles on Monday night.

The teams were deadlocked at 40-40 entering the fourth quarter, but the Jaguars took full control, outscoring the Eagles 18-5 in the final eight minutes.

Thomas Jefferson had a balanced attack with three players scoring in double figures. Marina Petruzzi and Jenna Clark led the way with 16 points. Alyssa DeAngelo added 15 points. Junior Alexis Sestric led the Eagles with 10 points.

The Jaguars take control of Section 2-5A with a 10-1 and 3-0 record. They will put their 10-game win streak on the line tonight in a tough road test at Trinity at 6 p.m. The Eagles fall to 6-3 and 2-1 and look to rebound on Thursday in a home section game against Gateway.
