Seneca Valley Leapfrogs Fox Chapel For Third Place In Section Standings
As we inch closer to the end of the regular season, playoff position begins to shape into form.
After a 56-42 win at Fox Chapel on Monday night, the Seneca Valley girls basketball team put themselves in position to finish in third place in the Section 1-6A standings with one section game remaining.
The Foxes and Raiders have identical section records, but Seneca Valley swept the regular season series.
The game was never in doubt on Monday after the Raiders jumped out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter. The game was evenly matched from there on out but the Foxes weren’t able to cut into the deficit.
Senior McKenna Gross led Seneca Valley with 14 points. Senior Gretchen Koken and junior Maddie Karchut finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Junior Gabby Guerrieri was the lone Fox in double figures with a game-high 15 points.
With the win, Seneca Valley improves to 14-6 overall and 8-5 in the section. The Raiders will host Butler on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the section finale.
Fox Chapel drops to 13-6 overall and 8-5 in the section. The Foxes will host Freeport in a non-section game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
