BASEBALL
NON-CONFERENCE
Bethel Park 1, Canon-McMillan 0 – 8 inn.
Evan Holewinski and Sebastian Schein allowed two hits over eight innings and Bethel Park (1-0) came away with the 1-0 victory in non-conference play on Wednesday. Jason Nuttridge had the game’s only run to go along with two hits. Austin Winkelblech threw seven shutout innings for Canon-McMillan (0-1).
Chartiers Valley 3, Peters Township 1
Charlie Caputo, Brendan Cruz and Justin Ferrari all had doubles as Chartiers Valley (1-0) opened the season with an impressive 3-1 win over Peters Township (1-1) on Wednesday afternoon. Joseph Vanzin struck out 10 in the win.
Gateway 10, Hampton 1
Taili Thompson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double as Gateway (1-0) dominated Hampton (1-1) on Wednesday in non-conference baseball. Ahmad Harris drove in three runs while Brandon Bell doubled twice. Anthony Bucci and Braxton Eastly each had doubles for Hampton.
Mars 13, Highlands 4
Charles Bickel drove in two runs and got the win on the mound as Mars (2-0) rolled Highlands (0-2) 13-4 in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon. Owen Smith had two hits and two RBIs. Luke Bombalski homered for Highlands.
Moon 6, Butler 2
Nate Barr and Will Marasco each drove in runs and had two hits as Moon (1-0) picked up a nice non-conference win against Butler (1-1) on Wednesday afternoon.
Penn-Trafford 12, Steel Valley 4
Brody Hoffman drove in three runs and Brandon Stone had two hits as Penn-Trafford (2-0) took down Steel Valley (0-1) 12-4 on Wednesday. Dylan Grabowski also had a triple for Penn-Trafford
Pine-Richland 6, Plum 3
Owen Henne hit a bomb and Tommy Zimmerman had two doubles as Pine-Richland (3-0) picked up another non-conference victory on Wednesday afternoon. Jack Anderson, Logan Kremmer, Dom Beyer and Carson Svidron all had multi-hit days for Plum (0-1).
SOFTBALL
NON-CONFERENCE
Armstrong 8, Indiana 1
Emma Paul went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs and Jenna Clontz homered as Armstrong (1-1) bounced back from their opening loss to handle Indiana (0-1) on Wednesday in non-conference play. Madison Baker struck out 10 on the mound.
Chartiers Valley 17, South Fayette 11
Madison Crump was 5-for-6 driving in three runs and Kenz Maga was 3-for-3 as Chartiers Valley (2-1) won a slugfest on Wednesday afternoon against South Fayette (1-2) 17-11. There were six triples in the game.
Fox Chapel 8, Butler 7
Hunter Taylor drove in two runs as Fox Chapel (1-1) picked up a non-conference victory on Wednesday defeating Butler (0-2) 8-7. Kelsey Ogin had two RBIs for Butler.
Hempfield 8, Franklin Regional 0
Riley Miller was 3-for-3 with a home run and threw a complete game shutout as Hempfield (2-0) only allowed three hits en route to an 8-0 victory over Franklin Regional (0-1).
Kiski Area 1, Burrell 0
Isabela Delia tripled in the only run of the game, Hannah Simpson struck out nine and got the win as Kiski Area (1-0) beat Burrell (0-1) 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel on Wednesday afternoon. Katie Armstrong was the tough-luck loser for Burrell as she struck out 15.
Latrobe 9, Mt. Pleasant 1
Kayla Williams hit two home runs and drove in four runs AND was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts as Latrobe (3-0) took care of business against Mt. Pleasant (1-2) beating them 9-1 in non-conference play on Wednesday. Lauren Weatherton had three RBIs for Latrobe.
McKeesport 15, Gateway 0
Aubrie Mackowiak drove in four runs while Madison Miller had two doubles and knocked in three runs as McKeesport (1-0) rolled Gateway (0-2) 15-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Jessica Miller was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for McKeesport.
Norwin 12, Penn-Trafford 1
Alyssa McCormick had a grand slam and was the winning pitcher as Norwin (2-1) defeated Penn-Trafford (0-2) 12-1 on Wednesday in non-conference play. Jaedyn Michalski and Isabella Deering each had home runs for Norwin as well. Lex Forsythe was 2-for-2 for Penn-Trafford.
Penn Hills 18, Woodland Hills 3
London Irish was 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Maura Wade drove in two runs as Penn Hills (2-0) was dominant in their non-conference victory over Woodland Hills (0-1).
Plum 11, Seton LaSalle 1
Liana Yusko hit a home run and Makenzie Lang had three RBIs as Plum (1-0) 10-runned Seton LaSalle (0-1) 11-1 in non-conference play.
Thomas Jefferson 11, Moon 5
Adalina Bracco had two home runs and Kendall Pielin struck out 14 hitters as Thomas Jefferson (2-0) came away with an 11-5 win over Moon (0-1) on Wednesday. Ava Karpa homered for Moon.
Western Beaver 13, New Brighton 1
Izzie Lefebvre had two triples and a home run while Lucy Tonkowski had a home run as well as Western Beaver (2-0) rolled New Brighton (0-1) 13-1 on Wednesday. Western Beaver’s two wins already tops last season’s total. Emma Boacki and Kaitlyn Zele each had three RBIs for Western Beaver.
