Pine-Richland Dominates In Class 5A WPIAL Championship Game
After moving down to Class 5A this year, Pine-Richland was the clear-cut favorite to win another WPIAL title, and they proved why on Saturday night.
The undefeated and top-seed Rams shut out previously undefeated and No. 3 Peters Township, 35-0, in the Class 5A WPIAL Championship Game at North Allegheny High School.
The Rams offense got off to a slow start, but were able to break the scoreboard late in the first quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback, Cole Spencer.
Pine-Richland opened up the floodgates in the second quarter with three touchdowns. Spencer connected with Eli Jochem for a 28 yard score to push the lead to double digits. The Rams scored two more times in the quarter on a 10-yard run by Brooks Eastburn and a 33-yard run by Spencer.
Eastburn put the finishing touches on the win with an 80-yard run in the fourth quarter. Tony Nicassio made all five extra points.
Spencer finished the game with 14 rushes for 105 yards and two scores and 15 of 22 for 133 yards passing and another score.
Eastburn finished with 103 yards on six rushes and two scores.
Pine-Richland will face District 3 champion, Governor Mifflin, on Saturday at Hollidaysburg High School at 1 p.m.
