PIAA Semifinals, Day 2: Offensive struggles doom McKeesport in PIAA Semifinals

Posted on:

McKeesport, known to be one of the better defensive teams in the WPIAL, was able to live up to the hype again in the state semifinals against District 10 champion Cathedral Prep. The problem was, Cathedral Prep’s defense was better and the Tigers offense could never get going in a 35-20 loss on Tuesday night at Slippery Rock University.

McKeesport was only able to muster 6 points in the first half, including getting shut out in the second quarter, and was never able to get back into the game. Cathedral Prep’s Addie Biel had a phenomenal night scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for the Ramblers. She was really the only player on either side that was able to get it going offensively.

This is a McKeesport team that will lose a majority of its core but it was a great run for the Tigers as the senior class won 85 games, got to the WPIAL semifinals three times and to the PIAA semifinals twice.

Cathedral Prep – 8 8 7 12 – 35

McKeesport – 6 0 4 10 – 20

McKeesport (24-5)

Brooke Evans – 6 points

Rachael Manfredo – 6 points
