BASEBALL

PIAA 6A FIRST ROUND

(7-1) Mt. Lebanon 4, (3-3) Manheim Township 1

(7-2) North Allegheny 11, (10-1) McDowell 5

Harron Lee had two hits and three RBIs and Owen Schall had three hits while driving in two as North Allegheny (17-7) defeated the District 10 champion McDowell (15-7) 11-5 at Mercyhurst University on Monday morning. 

North Allegheny advances to the PIAA Quarterfinals where they will have a matchup with Cedar Cliff, the champion out of District 3, on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

PIAA 5A FIRST ROUND

(7-1) Shaler 7, (3-5) Muhlenberg 1

Miguel Hugas had two hits and drove in four runs as Shaler (20-4) pulled away from Muhlenburg (15-9) late, to come away with the 7-1 first round victory. Colby Weber got the win in relief for Shaler.

Shaler advances to the PIAA Quarterfinals where they will see Penn-Trafford at a site and time to be determined on Thursday.

(7-2) Bethel Park 8, (3-1) Mechanicsburg 2 – 10 innings

Evan Holewinski had two hits including a home run and five RBIs as Bethel Park (18-5) scored six in the top of the 10th to put away Mechanicsburg (18-7) at their home field on Monday afternoon.

Bethel Park advances to the PIAA Quarterfinals on Thursday where they will take on Monsignor, the champion out of District 12, at a site and time to be determined.

(7-3) Penn-Trafford 8, (6-1) Central Mountain 5

Penn-Trafford (16-6) jumped all over Central Mountain (20-2) getting three runs in the first inning and upended the top ranked team in PA in 5A by a score of 8-5 on Monday afternoon at Lock Haven University.

Ian Temple, Brody Hoffman and Brady Lane all had three hits for Penn-Trafford. Carmen Metcalfe had three RBIs. Gabe Johnson had two hits for Central Mountain.

Penn-Trafford advances to the PIAA Quarterfinals where they will meet up with WPIAL Champion Shaler on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

SOFTBALL

PIAA 6A FIRST ROUND

(7-1) Hempfield 5, (6-1) Mifflin County 0

PIAA 5A FIRST ROUND

(7-1) Trinity 8, (3-4) Solanco 3

Hanna Suhoski homered and had two RBIs, Addison Agnew had two hits as Trinity (20-2) got to the PIAA Quarterfinals with a 8-3 win over Solanco (21-4). Sara DeFrancesco had two RBIs for Solanco.

Trinity will take on Shaler in the PIAA Quarterfinals on Thursday. This is a rematch of the WPIAL Semifinals where Trinity defeated Shaler 5-4 in nine innings. The site and time is still to be determined.

(7-2) Armstrong 15, (3-2) Mechanicsburg 4

Jordyn Klingensmith had three RBIs and Cameryn Sprankle had two hits, drove in two runs and got the win in the circle as Armstrong (20-2) took down Mechanicsburg (22-4) in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs. 

Jessica Pugh drove in two runs and Shelby Cloak was 4-for-5 for Armstrong. Bella DeMaio was 3-for-3 for Mechanicsburg.

Armstrong advances to the PIAA Quarterfinals and will play West Chester Rustin, the District 1 runner-up, on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

(7-3) Shaler 2, (6-1) Central Mountain 1

Bria Bosiljevac struck out 17 hitters in the circle and Emily Spears hit a two-run home run to give Shaler (20-1) the 2-1 first round win over Central Mountain (16-4). Allison Lininger hit a home run for Central Mountain.

Shaler advances to the PIAA Quarterfinals where a rematch with Trinity awaits on Thursday at a site and time to be determined. Trinity defeated Shaler 5-4 in nine innings in the WPIAL Semifinals.
