PIAA 6A Girls Basketball First Round Recap

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PIAA 6A FIRST ROUND

North Allegheny 76, Manheim Township 53

After a tight first quarter, North Allegheny (21-5) outscored Manheim Township (17-11) 22-8 in the second quarter and rolled to a 76-53 victory at North Allegheny High School on Friday night.

Kellie McConnell and Jasmine Timmerson each had 18 points for North Allegheny. Lydia Betz had 15 points and Caroline Henderson added 11 points. Ava Byrne had 18 points for Manheim Township. Sarah Kraus had 13 points while Julia Goebig netted 12.

North Allegheny advances to the PIAA 6A Second Round where they will take on Mt. Lebanon on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

Norwin 34, Central Dauphin 19

6A’s top defense showed up big time on the road Friday night as Norwin (22-4) gutted out a 34-19 victory over Central Dauphin (20-6) at Central Dauphin High School.

Ava Christopher had 10 points for Norwin.

Norwin advances to the PIAA 6A Second Round where they will play the fifth place team out of District 3 in Lebanon on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

Upper St. Clair 56, McDowell 34

Upper St. Clair (22-3) only led by four points at the half but exploded in the second half to pull away from McDowell (19-7) and advance to the PIAA Second Round with a 56-34 victory.

Rylee Kalocay had 30 points for Upper St. Clair while Kate Robbins added 10. Amaiya Nelson had 12 points for McDowell.

Upper St. Clair advances to the PIAA 6A Second Round where they will take on Pennsbury, the fourth place team out of District 1 on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

Mt. Lebanon 58, Altoona 50

Mt. Lebanon (18-8) went to Altoona High School on Friday night and was able to come away with a 58-50 win over Altoona (17-10) to get to the PIAA Second Round.

Clare Cramer had 16 points for Mt. Lebanon while Jenny Smith had 12. Lanie Wilt had 13 points for Altoona. Melana Eyer added 11 points and Jaiden Krull and Brooklyn Barron each had 10 points.

Mt. Lebanon advances to the PIAA 6A Second Round where they will take on North Allegheny on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.
