PIAA 6A Girls Basketball First Round Preview

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PIAA 6A FIRST ROUND

10-1 McDowell (19-6) at 7-2 Upper St. Clair (21-3) – 6 pm

McDowell was the top seed in the District 10 playoffs. They defeated No. 2 Erie (51-40) in the District 10 Championship Game. They then defeated District 8 Champion Allderdice (60-26) in the District 6/8/10 Sub-Regional Semifinals before falling to District 6 Champion Altoona (41-39 OT) in the District 6/8/10 Sub-Regional Championship. McDowell is ranked #19 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.

Upper St. Clair was the top seed in the District 7 playoffs. They beat No. 8 Peters Township (60-43) and No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (58-33) before falling to No. 2 North Allegheny (71-45) in the WPIAL Championship Game. Upper St. Clair is led by Rylee Kalocay (1st team all-section) and Kate Robbins (1st team all-section). Upper St. Clair is ranked #4 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.

7-3 Norwin (21-4) at 3-3 Central Dauphin (20-5) – 6 pm – NFHS Network

Norwin was the No. 3 seed in the District 7 playoffs. They beat No. 6 Baldwin (51-36) in the WPIAL Quarterfinals before falling to No. 2 North Allegheny (38-36) in the WPIAL Semifinals. Norwin would bounce back in the WPIAL Third-Place game defeating No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (56-43). Norwin is led by Kendall Berger (1st team all-section), Ava Kobus (1st team all-section) and Lauren Palangio (1st team all-section). Norwin is ranked #2 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.

Central Dauphin was the No. 5 seed in the District 3 playoffs. They defeated No. 12 Cumberland Valley (37-30) and No. 4 Red Lion (56-44) before falling to top-seeded Cedar Cliff (42-33) in the District 3 Semifinals. Central Dauphin would come back and beat No. 11 Dallastown (40-25) in the District 3 Third-Place Game. Central Dauphin is led by Alexis Ferguson (8.6 ppg) and Lauren Cavoli (8.0 ppg). Central Dauphin is ranked #20 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.

3-7 Manheim Township (17-10) at 7-1 North Allegheny (20-5) – 6 pm – North Allegheny Sports Network

Manheim Township was the No. 7 seed in the District 3 playoffs. They defeated No. 10 Ephrata (37-33) in the District 3 First Round before falling to No. 2 Central York (60-49) in the District 3 Quarterfinals. Manheim Township would bounce back to beat No. 3 Lebanon and No. 8 William Penn (52-45) in the District 3 Consolation bracket to get the seventh seed out of District 3. Ava Byrne is coming off of a 16-point performance in the District 3 Seventh-Place Game. Julia Goebig had 13 points in that game while Sarah Kraus had eight points and 12 rebounds. Manheim Township is ranked #44 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.

North Allegheny was the No. 2 seed in the District 7 playoffs. They beat No. 7 Pine-Richland (69-56), No. 3 Norwin (38-36) and top-seeded Upper St. Clair (71-45) to win the WPIAL Championship. North Allegheny is led by Jasmine Timmerson (1st team all-section) and Lydia Betz (1st team all-section). Timmerson is coming off of a 30-point performance, her career-high, in the WPIAL Championship Game. North Allegheny is ranked #3 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.

7-4 Mt. Lebanon (17-8) at 6-1 Altoona (17-9) – 6 pm

Mt. Lebanon was the No. 4 seed in the District 7 playoffs. They beat No. 5 Chartiers Valley (47-46) in the WPIAL Quarterfinals before losing to top-seeded Upper St. Clair (58-33) in the WPIAL Semifinals. Mt. Lebanon then fell to No. 3 Norwin (56-43) in the WPIAL Third-Place Game. Mt. Lebanon is led by Payton Collins (1st team all-section). Mt. Lebanon is ranked #15 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.

Altoona was the top seed in the District 6 playoffs. They defeated No. 2 Mifflin County (61-35) in the District 6 Championship Game. Altoona then beat District 10 Champion McDowell (41-39) in the District 6/8/10 Sub-Regional Championship. Altoona is led by Melana Eyer (12.2 ppg) and Lanie Wilt (10.0 ppg). Altoona is ranked #23 in the Maxpreps PA 6A rankings.
