BOYS BASKETBALL

PIAA 6A FIRST ROUND

Central Catholic 50, Wilson 28

Central Catholic’s (17-9) defense showed up in a big way as Wilson (19-10) never scored double figures in a quarter and Central Catholic got to the PIAA Second Round with a 50-28 victory on Saturday afternoon at Gateway High School.

Cole Sullivan led Central Catholic with 13 points. Dante DePante and Tommy Kristian each had 10 points.

Central Catholic advances to the PIAA Second Round where they will take on District 6 Champion State College on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

State College 72, Upper St. Clair 42

State College (24-2) had a 12-point lead at halftime and completely broke the game open in the third quarter outscoring Upper St. Clair (16-10) 25-7 in that quarter, and rolled to a 72-42 win on Saturday afternoon at State College High School.

Matthew Gaither and Christian Wieczenski each had 12 points for Upper St. Clair. Braden Shressberry had 20 points for State College.

New Castle 60, Erie 50

New Castle (23-3) held Erie (16-10) to four points in the third quarter and that was the difference as they got a little separation and never let Erie back into the game advancing to the PIAA Second Round with a 60-50 triumph on Saturday afternoon at New Castle High School.

Isaiah Boice led New Castle with 19 points. Jonathan Anderson had 18 points, Da’Juan Young added 11 points and Ralphie Blundo netted 10. Jaheim Mims led Erie with 13 points while Jay Smith had 11 points and Adrien Tate pitched in 10 points.

New Castle advances to the PIAA Second Round where they will play Downingtown West, the fourth place team out of District 1, on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.
