GIRLS BASKETBALL

PIAA 5A SEMIFINALS

7-2 Oakland Catholic (25-4) vs. 7-1 South Fayette (27-2) – at Peters Township – 6:30 pm

This is a rematch of the WPIAL Championship Game, won by South Fayette 64-49. Villanova recruit Maddie Webber had 16 points in the game. Webber got in foul trouble late in the first quarter and Oakland Catholic took advantage taking a 25-23 lead at halftime. South Fayette was +21 when Webber was in the game. 

Oakland Catholic struggled in their quarterfinal contests early, missing their first 14 shots but was able to battle back in the fourth quarter and force overtime, where they ultimately won the game 60-59. Alexa Washington had 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime for Oakland Catholic. 

South Fayette trailed by eight points in the third quarter and were able to also battle back, beating Cathedral Prep 40-37 on a Webber buzzer-beater three-pointer. So both teams come into this game battle tested.

Oakland Catholic is looking for their first state championship since 2005. South Fayette has never won a state title.
