PIAA 5A CHAMPIONSHIP

7-1 South Fayette (28-2) vs. 12-1 Archbishop Wood (24-5) – 6 pm – GIANT Center, Hershey, PA – WJPA

South Fayette is in the state championship game for the first time in school history. This has been an impressive turnaround for South Fayette as in 2019-2020 they finished the regular season with a 9-13 record and missed the WPIAL playoffs all together. Three seasons later, they’re in the state championship game.

South Fayette has defeated West York (73-33), Mechanicsburg (69-29), Cathedral Prep (40-37) and Oakland Catholic (58-54) to get to this point. They are led by Maddie Webber, a Villanova recruit and Ava Leroux, an Elon recruit. Both were named to the Big 56 first team all-section team.

South Fayette will have their hands full as they will go up against Archbishop Wood, who moved up to 5A this season after winning the last two 4A state championships. They have won seven state titles in the last 13 seasons.

Archbishop Wood is led by Deja Evans, who is an Albany recruit. She averages 16.0 points per game, 14.3 rebounds per game and 5.0 blocks per game. Kara Meredith averages 11.0 points per game for Archbishop Wood, she is going to Holy Family University. Ava Renninger is also a very good offensive threat for Archbishop Wood.

This game will be broadcasted live on WJPA. You can find the broadcast link on the broadcast schedule under Multimedia.
