Peters Twp. Clinches Playoff Spot With Win Against Mt. Lebanon
The winner of last night’s Mt. Lebanon vs. Peters Township Section 3-6A baseball game would clinch the final playoff spot in the section.
In a close game throughout, the Indians prevailed with a 5-4 win on their home field.
Senior Garrett Miller came in relief for the Indians, shutting the door by striking out seven in 3.2 innings pitched.
With the game tied 3-3, Peters Township scored two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. The Blue Devils were able to get one back in the seventh but left the tying run on second base.
Offensively, senior Luke Mary went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Indians. Sophomore Matthew Levy also had a pair of hits for Peters Township.
The win also allowed the Indians to split the season series with the Blue Devils after losing a 2-1 contest in 11 innings on April 16.
Peters Township improves to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the section. It was their fourth win in their last five games. The Indians will travel to Canon-McMIllan on Saturday in the section final at 1 p.m.
Mt. Lebanon drops to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in the section. It was their fourth loss in their last five section games. The Blue Devils will host Upper St. Clair at 4:15 p.m. on Friday in the section finale.
