Peters Township Passes first Test of the season
Up until this point of the season, the Peters Township girls basketball team wasn’t tested too much throughout the season.
The Indians have outscored opponents, 542-284, through its first eight games of the season.
On Thursday, Bethel Park gave them all they could handle in a battle of top five teams in Class 6A.
The Indians pulled out a 68-60 win in overtime at Bethel Park thanks to some clutch shots from the free-throw line.
In the extra quarter, Peters Township converted 10 of 12 from the charity stripe to seal the victory.
Bethel Park held a four point lead at halftime, but Peters Township made that up in the third quarter and both teams played to a tie in the fourth quarter.
Leading the way for the Indians was senior Makenna Marisa with 25 points. Also scoring in double figures for Peters Township was senior Isabella Mills with 16 points.
Sophomore Olivia Westphal had a game-high 34 points to lead the Black Hawks. Freshman Emma Dziezgowski and her junior sister, Maddie, had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
With the win, Peters Township improves to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in Section 2-6A. The Indians will have another tough road test on Thursday, Jan. 10 when they travel to Mt. Lebanon for a section game at 7:30 p.m.
Bethel Park drops to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the section. The Black Hawks will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host Connellsville in a section game on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
