Peters Township Girls Basketball Clinches Section Title
It came down to the end of the season, but the Peters Township girls’ basketball team was able to clinch the section title in Section 3-6A.
The Indians did so with a 60-54 win at home against a Mt. Lebanon team that gave Peters Township its lone section loss of the season.
Peters Township blew the game open in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 18-10 to give the Indians a 30-20 lead at halftime.
Mt. Lebanon continued to chip away in the second half, but it was too much Makenna Marisa and Isabella Mills for Peters Township.
Marisa, a sophomore, led the team with a game-high 32 points. Mills, another sophomore, added 19 points.
Sophomore Haley Sabol and junior Jamey Napoleon each had 16 points for the Blue Devils.
The win improves Peters Township to 16-2 overall and 8-1 in the section. The Indians will go for their seventh straight win on Saturday when they host Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic at 1:30 p.m. in a non-section game.
Mt. Lebanon drops to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in the section. They are tied for third place and have already clinched a playoff spot. The Blue Devils will host Upper St. Clair on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The winner will finish in third place in the section.
