Peters Township Continues To Dominate in PIAA Quarterfinal Win Against Norwin

Norwin was the final top tier WPIAL team with an opportunity to bring down undefeted WPIAL champion, Peters Township.

The Knights couldn’t slow down the Indians, as Peters went on to win 64-47 on Friday night at Keystone Oaks High School in the Class 6A PIAA quarterfinals.

The Indians controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 12-0 lead. Norwin didn’t score its first points until under three minutes remaining in the quarter. The Indians forced more turnovers than points allowed in the quarter.

Peters Township clamped down even harder on the defensive end in the second quarter, allowing only two points and held a 26-8 lead at halftime.

Norwin opened up the second half on a 6-0 run but was never really able to get within striking distance.

Senior Makenna Marisa was held scoreless in the first quarter, but was still able to finish as the game’s leading scorer with 20 points. Freshman Journey Thompson finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Jordan Bisignani scored seven of her 13 points in the first quarter and senior Isabella Mills added 11 points.

For Norwin, Junior Jayla Wehner and sophomore Mara Polczynski finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Peters Township improves to 28-0 and will face defending state champion out of District 1, Upper Dublin, in the PIAA semifinals on Monday at Bald Eagle High School at 6 p.m.
