Heading into Friday night’s Section 3-5A finale, the Penn-Trafford girls basketball team and Latrobe were tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the section.

The Warriors made sure they would have more than just Senior night to celebrate, punching their ticket into the playoffs with a 62-32 win against the Wildcats, knocking them out of playoff contention. They also avenged an earlier loss in the season to Latrobe, falling 47-43 on Jan. 14

The two teams were evenly matched through the first quarter, but Penn-Trafford outscored Latrobe 17-2 in the second quarter to take a 31-14 lead into halftime. That all but sealed the game, but the Warriors didn’t let up and continued to build the lead in the second half.

Junior Bella Long led Penn-Trafford with 18 points. Sophomore Mackenzie Powell added 12 points.

Senior Carly Augustine led Latrobe with eight points.

With the win, Penn-Trafford concludes its regular season at 13-9 overall and 9-5 in the section. The Warriors will await their playoff seeding which will be announced on Tuesday night.

Latrobe drops to 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the section. The Wildcats will play their season finale on Monday when they host Gateway at 7:30 p.m.
