Penn Hills travels to Ohio to Pick Up Week Zero Win
Penn Hills ventured out of the WPIAL, traveling to Steubenville High School in Ohio to start the 2018 season, coming away with a 21-14 win against a formidable opponent.
The Indians, who moved down a classification to 5A this season, relied on their defense until their normally high-powered offense found its rhythm.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first half, but combined for five touchdowns in the second half.
Penn Hills recorded two touchdowns in the third quarter and one more in the fourth and held Steubenville to one touchdown in each of those quarters.
SeniorĀ Hollis Mathis completed 21 of 37 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. SeniorĀ Daquan Hardy caught two of those touchdowns and finished with three catches for 90 yards. One of his two scores was a 61-yarder in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Penn Hills (1-0) will play another non-section game next week when they host Latrobe in the home-opener at 7 p.m.
