Oakland Catholic Uses Defense to Advance to PIAA Quarterfinals
Oakland Catholic allowed only five points in the first half and zero in the second quarter on its way to a 46-34 win against Palmyra at Altoona in the PIAA second round on Wednesday.
The WPIAL runner-up led 17-5 at halftime and were able to maintain that margin of victory in the second half.
Junior Sierra DeAngelo and sophomore Cierra Christian almost outscored Palmyra themselves, combining for 28 points. DeAngelo led the Eagles with 16 points and Christian had 12 points.
The win improves Oakland Catholic to 19-9. The Eagles will play Archbishop Carroll at Chambersburg High School on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the PIAA quarterfinals.
