Norwin Girls Soccer Reclaims Section Title
The Norwin girls soccer team was undefeated in Section 3-4A heading into Monday night’s section finale against rival Penn-Trafford, yet they still didn’t have the title clinched outright.
They made sure that wouldn’t be the case after 80 minutes of play with a 4-1 win against the Warriors, reclaiming the section title from their rivals from a year ago.
Penn-Trafford was the lone team to figure out Norwin last year, defeating them twice, including once in the WPIAL Class 4A Championship Game. Norwin swept the season series this year, also defeating Penn-Trafford back on Sept. 24, 4-2.
Sophomore Morgan Sigut had a goal and an assist for the Knights on Monday to lead the team. Fellow sophomore and Pitt recruit, Katelyn Kauffman, has had a goal for the Knights.
Penn-Trafford cut the 2-0 halftime deficit in half eight minutes into the second half with a goal by Kiley Dugan. That would be as close as the Warriors would come for the rest of the game.
After an own goal by the Warriors, freshman Paloma Swankler put the finishing touches on the game and the section with the fourth goal of the game.
The Knights controlled the pace of the game, outshooting the Warriors, 16-5.
Norwin improves to 14-2 overall and 12-0 in the section. Penn-Trafford dips to 12-4 overall and 10-2 in the section. Both teams will await the WPIAL brackets to see their seedings in the Class 4A playoffs that come out on Wednesday.
