Norwin Girls Basketball Halts Latrobe’s Section Title Hopes

Latrobe was closing in on a section title with an undefeated record and home game against second place Norwin, but the Knight had other plans.

Norwin, who have prided themselves on being road warriors all season long, went into Latrobe and delivered them its first section loss, 58,54.

The two teams have now split the season series and the Wildcats still hold a lead a half game lead over the Knights with a couple games remaining in the section season.

Norwin  overcame a 17-10 deficit after the first quarter and 27-23 deficit at halftime. They came out strong in the third quarter to race to a 45-44 lead entering the final quarter.

Sophomore Jayla Wehner led Norwin with 16 points in the game. Senior Laura Graytok had a game-high 17 points for the Wildcats.

The win improves Norwin’s record to 8-8 and 6-2. They will go for its third straight win when they host Fox Chapel on Tuesday.

Latrobe drops to 13-3 and 6-1. The Wildcats will host Derry in a non-section game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
