North Hills Baseball Advances to Class 5A Championship Game
The North Hills Indians defeated West Allegheny 11-4 in the WPIAL Semifinals on Thursday night at North Allegheny High School to advance to the Class 5A WPIAL Championship Game. The semifinal appearance was the first one for the Indians since 1974.
Beau Braunlich pitched five strong innings, scattering six hits, allowing four runs while striking out seven to earn the victory.
Steven Miller came on for the final two innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four of the six batters he faced.
The Indians jumped out early scoring three runs in the top of the 1st inning. With two on and two out, JT Mazula blasted a triple to the left centerfield gap scoring Jordan Pitchford and Garret Barto. Tyler Zozos then singled to drive in the third run of the inning.
North Hills broke the game open by scoring six runs in the fifth inning. Miller doubled to deep left – scoring Jordan Albright and Barto, followed by a Mazula single, driving in Miller. Alex Glatz had an RBI Double, Braunlich singled, setting the stage for Pitchford’s two-RBI triple off the right-field fence.
The Indians tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning when Barto doubled and came home on an RBI single by Miller.
With the Win, North Hills has advanced to the WPIAL 5A Championship game against Section Rival Mars. The game will be played on Wednesday, May 30th at 5pm at Wild Things Park in Washington, PA.
The Indians are now 19-3 on the season and have also clinched a berth in the PIAA State Tournament.
