Myers’ Pitching Gem Ends Hempfield’s Section Winning Streak

Junior Kiley Myers had one of the best games of her career on Thursday. Myers shut out top-ranked Hempfield, 1-0, to end the Spartans section winning streak at 41 games.

Myers pitched a complete-game, striking out 15 batters, didn’t allow a walk, and only allowed two hits. She was able to get out of a seventh inning jam where Hempfield had runners on the corners with no outs.

Myers didn’t receive any run support until the top of the seventh inning when freshman Jordan Tallman hit a solo home run, her first of her career.

The last time Hempfield lost a section game was on April 15, 2015 against Norwin. During that stretch, they also beat Latrobe nine straight games before Thursday.

Latrobe improves to 9-2 overall and 8-2 in Section 2-6A. Despite the win, they still finish a game behind Hempfield in the section. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Indiana for a 4 p.m. non-section game.

Hempfield drops to 13-2 overall and 9-1 in the section. The Spartans will travel to Erie on Monday to play McDowell in a non-section game at 4 p.m.
