Mt. Lebanon Hands Butler First Loss in Convincing Fashion

Mt. Lebanon’s non-section schedule has prepared them as well as any team in Class 6A so far this season. Already going 1-1 against North Allegheny and Pine-Richland, the Blue Devils picked up their most impressive win of the season on Tuesday night against Butler.

With the top team and player coming into their gym, Mt. Lebanon took it to junior Ethan Morton and Butler, coming away with a 87-60 win.

This was the third time in five games that the Blue Devils have scored more than 80 points in a game.

Morton, who was coming off a 48-point night, was held to 12 points in the loss. The leading scorer for the Golden Tornado was freshman Devin Carney with 14 points.

Mt. Lebanon jumped out to an early lead with a 28-17 advantage after the first quarter. The Blue Devils played with the lead from that point forward.

Junior Jake Hoffman led four players in double figures for the Blue Devils with 27 points. Senior Sean Loughran recorded 23 points, and junior Blaine Gartley and senior Hayden Mitchell each scored 14 points.

The win improves Mt. Lebanon to 4-1 on the season. The Blue Devils will host Baldwin in their section opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Butler drops to 5-1 and will host North Allegheny in its section opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m. It will be Hall of Fame Night for the Golden Tornado.
