Mt. Lebanon Girls Basketball Knocks Off No. 2 Peters Township
In its biggest game of the season, the Mt. Lebanon girls basketball team was able to deliver its biggest win, a 44-43 victory against section favorite, Peters Township.
The win caused a log jam at the top of the Section 3-6A standings, with three teams tied for first place at 3-1. Besides, Mt. Lebanon and Peters Township, Bethel Park is 3-1 as well.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter, and maintained that nine-point advantage into halftime. The Indians continued to chip away in the third quarter, thanks to sophomore Makenna Marissa. Marissa scored all 13 of the Indians’ points in the quarter on her way to a game-high 24 points.
Peters Township was able to cut the lead to a point, but Marissa’s half court heave at the buzzer was off the mark.
Senior Alyssa Hyland had a fast start for Mt. Lebanon, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the first quarter. Junior Jamey Napoleon matched Hyland with 14 points.
With the win, Mt. Lebanon improves to 6-7 and 3-1. The Blue Devils will travel to Upper St. Clair on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Peters Township drops to 10-2 and 3-1. The Indians will host Canon-McMillan on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
