Mars Handles First Place North Hills On The Road
The North Hills baseball team had the opportunity to run away with the Section 1-5A title, but Mars made sure they brought them back into the middle the of the pack with a 9-0 win on the road on Monday.
The Planets were led by a complete-game effort by junior Will Bednar, who struck out 15 batters.
Offensively, Mars was led by junior Rowen Fletcher with a 3-for-4 performance. Fletcher had a triple and RBI. Also recording multi-hit or RBI games were senior Frank Craska (2-for-4 and two RBI) and junior Matt Fuller (1-for-4 and two RBI).
Mars and North Hills have now split the season series. The Planets improve to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the section. They are alone in third place. They will host Obama Academy in a section game today at 3:45 p.m.
North Hills drops to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in the section. They are still alone in first place, by a game over Hampton. The Indians will host Fox Chapel on Friday at 7 p.m. in the section finale.
