Latrobe hands Penn Hills first loss of the season
In a pivotal Section 3-6A game, the Latrobe boys’ basketball team defeated Penn Hills, 80-66, giving the Indians their first loss of the season. Penn Hills was the last Class 6A team to suffer a loss.
The tide changed in the third quarter with the Wildcats outscoring the Indians 25-10 in the quarter. The lead turned a 39-36 halftime deficit to a 61-49 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Junior Bryce Butler had the hot hand for the Wildcats, finishing with a game-high 27 points. Also scoring in double figures for Latrobe was junior Reed Fenton with 16 and senior Anthony Fannie with 15.
Senior Cam Wiley led Penn Hills with 21 points.
With the win, Latrobe improves to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the section. They sit a game behind Penn Hills and Woodland Hills for first place in the section. The Wildcats will travel to Woodland Hills on Friday for another pivotal game at 7:30 p.m.
The loss drops Penn Hills to 14-1 overall and 6-1 in the section. They will return on to face Plum at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for its next game.
