Last Second Layup Lifts West Allegheny Past Moon
There isn’t a lot you can do in less than a second, but that was enough time for the West Allegheny boys’ basketball team to pick up a win against Moon.
Sophomore Jackson Faulk‘s layup with 0.6 seconds left on the clock broke a tie and gave the Indians a 55-53 win on the road in Section 2-5A. With the win, West Allegheny has now leapfrogged Moon for second place in the section behind Mars. The two teams will play again in a couple of weeks, which could determine second place in the section.
The game remained close throughout the whole game, with West Allegheny holding a 26-21 lead at halftime and 43-35 lead after three before Moon stormed backed to tie it late.
Faulk was the answer all night for the Indians, leading the team with 17 points. Junior Jioni Smith led the Tigers with a game-high 18 points.
The win improves West Allegheny to 8-7 overall and 6-2 in the section. The will face another big test on Friday when they host section leader Mars at 7:30 p.m.
The loss drops Moon to 13-3 and 5-2. They will look to rebound on Friday when they host Hampton at 7:30 p.m.
