Lady Tigers Cruise Past Big Macs in Holiday Tournament
North Allegheny raced to a 26-7 first quarter lead and cruised past the Canon-McMillan Big Macs on Friday afternoon in the opening day of the Wright Automotive Holiday Tournament, 59-43. The Lady Tigers shot 58 percent in the opening quarter and connected on 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. NA’s hot start was spearheaded by junior Devvin LaBarge who poured in 11 points in the quarter, on her way to a 17 point night.
While LaBarge and the Tigers couldn’t miss, Canon-Mac couldn’t hold on to the basketball. North Allegheny stripped the ball free for six steals and held the Big Macs to 25 percent shooting from the field in the first quarter. Business picked up for CM in the second and third quarters, but the Big Macs were unable to make up any ground, simply trading baskets with the Tigers for the rest of the day. North Allegheny held a 37-17 lead at intermission and maintained their 20 point advantage for the majority of the game.
Junior forward Danielle Parker had a solid game for CM, posting a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Joining LaBarge in double-digits for the Tigers was sophomore Taylor Lake who netted 10 points and five boards. Sophomore Abby Gonzales corralled a game-high five steals and junior Meg Morningstar pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
With the victory, North Allegheny improves to 7-1 overall while Canon-McMillan drops to 3-6. The Lady Tigers will face South Park in the Championship Game of the Wright Automotive Holiday Tournament at 3:15 pm. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network. The Big Macs will take on Penn-Trafford in the Consolation Game starting at 1:30 pm.
