Hampton Increases Playoff Odds With Win Against Chartiers Valley
It wasn’t a win or go home scenario, but Tuesday night’s Section 2-5A boys basketball game between Chartiers Valley and Hampton went a long way to who can get that fourth and final playoff spot in the section.
At home, the Talbots got the inside track to extend their season with a 60-49 win against the Colts.
Both teams were deadlocked after the first quarter, but that wouldn’t be for long, as Hampton took control of the game in the second quarter. The Talbots outscored the Colts 19-5 in the quarter to take a 31-17 halftime lead that they would not relinquish.
Junior Josh Winek led the Talbots with a game-high 25 points. Sophomore Colby Mignogna added 15 points. For the Colts, Joe Pipilo and Sean Banas finished in double figures with 20 and 16 points, respectively.
With the win, Hampton improves to 9-10 overall and 5-5 in the section. They currently sit a half-game ahead of Chartiers Valley for the final playoff spot in the section. Hampton will host Butler in a non-section game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Chartiers Valley drops to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the section after losing its fifth straight game. The Colts will look to break the streak on Friday when they host Knoch at 7:30 p.m.
