Hampton Hangs On Against South Fayette and Section Lead
The Hampton baseball team jumped out to a 5-0 lead against visiting South Fayette on Thursday, and held onto a 5-4 win to stay in sole possession of first place in Section 2-5A.
The Talbots scored one run in the fourth and had a big four run fourth inning to create some breathing room.
South Fayette stuck with it, scoring one in the sixth and three in the seventh but couldn’t get the tying run to cross the plate.
Shaun Mikulan got the Talbots on the board with a solo home run in the third inning. Will Schuit had two RBI for Hampton.
Brendan Erka pitched the first six innings and picked up the win. Casey Marshalwitz came into save the game in the seventh.
Hampton improves to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the section. The Talbots will travel to Shaler on Monday for a section game at 4 p.m.
South Fayette drops to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the section. The Lions will host Mars in a section game at 4 p.m. on Monday.
