Gateway Wins Back Victory Bell and WPIAL Class 5A Championship Game Rematch

It was Week 6 of last year where Penn-Trafford shutout Gateway, 28-0, taking the annual Victory Bell game against their rival. That didn’t sit well with the Gators.

Gateway got their revenge in the Class 5A WPIAL championship game, a 21-16 victory at Heinz Field, on its way to a berth in the PIAA Championship Game.

The Gators got more revenge on Friday Night, reclaiming the Victory Bell with a home win against the Warriors, 27-7.

Penn-Trafford scored first, but were held scoreless the rest of the game as Gateway scored 27 unanswered points to finish it off.

Brandon Majocha, in his first season as the starting quarterback for the Gators, passed for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Gateway’s top two returning playmakers, sophomore Derrick Davis and senior Courtney Jackson, both scored two touchdowns.

Penn-Trafford quarterback Gabe Dunlap had another stellar performance in another losing effort, passing for 151 yards and rushing for 101.

Gateway (2-0, 1-0 Big East Conference) will look to stay undefeated next Friday when they travel to Plum (1-1, 0-1) at 7 p.m.

Penn-Trafford (0-2, 0-1 Big East Conference) will have their home opener next Friday after two tough road contests. The Warriors will host Connellsville (1-1, 0-1) on Youth Night at 7:30 p.m.
