Gateway Comes From Behind To Edge Penn-Trafford
The Gateway girls basketball team was not in a good position during the first three quarters of its Class 5A First Round game against Penn-Trafford at Norwin on Tuesday night.
The Gators only scored two points in the first quarter and eight in the first half, but were able to stage a furious rally in the fourth quarter to come away with a 37-36 win.
At the half, Penn-Trafford held a 17-8 lead and Gateway trailed by as many as 13 late, but outscored the Warriors 21-9 in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.
Junior Dynasty Shegog, a second-team all-section pick, scored the game-winning basket with under a minute left.
Sophomore Lexi Margolis, a first-team selection, led the Gators with 11 points.
Gateway will face Trinity in the WPIAL Quarterfinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Baldwin High School. This is the Gators fourth straight WPIAL quarterfinal appearance.
